Government and public sector agencies are facing a wave of retirements and urgently need experienced people for program management, compliance, and policy roles. These positions offer job security, strong benefits, and genuine respect for institutional knowledge. USAJOBS.gov is the starting point, and many roles specifically value private-sector backgrounds.
Financial services and insurance are in a similar spot. Client-facing roles like financial advisor, benefits consultant, and underwriter depend on trust and credibility that takes years to build. Firms know that clients over 50 often prefer working with advisors who have lived through similar life stages. That is a direct advantage.
Corporate training and learning and development is growing fast as companies invest in upskilling their own workforces. If you spent years managing teams, running operations, or developing people, you have curriculum no one can fake. Many positions are part-time or contract, which also gives you flexibility.
Healthcare administration (distinct from clinical care) continues to expand. Roles in revenue cycle management, compliance, patient advocacy, and operations pay well and value the kind of detail-oriented, high-stakes experience many 50+ professionals bring from other industries.
Look at where your skills translate, not just where you have worked before. The right industry may not be the obvious one.
